About

Origin Story

A Brief History

The Chapel was first built after the official organization of the Presbyterian Church of Croton Falls in 1847, near St. John’s Episcopal Church. This congregation traces its origins back to the Revolutionary Era by the owners of several farms in the North Salem area.

During the late 1800s, the City of New York consolidated its watershed property to make way for the Croton Reservoir in its current form. Rather than allowing the building to be demolished, the community dismantled the structure and relocated to the current location off Route 22. The cornerstone for the new building was laid on November 8th, 1899.

The Presbyterian Church at Croton Falls continued to worship at this location, over the years changing in leadership and congregation size. On June 12, 2022 the congregation held its last service, honoring the 174 year legacy of the church.

New Stewardship

The current stewards of the chapel are organized under the non-profit The Chapel at Croton Falls. Founded in 2022, this non-profit is tasked with the restoration efforts to bring this historic building back into a productive part of the village of Croton Falls. The goal of The Chapel at Croton Falls is to create a community space for spiritual expression of all types including weddings, ceremonies, services, congregation meetings, religious music practice and concerts, and much more. Get in touch to see how you can use the space today!

Events

The Chapel is a truly versatile space for all your spiritual expression needs. The space contains meetings rooms and a kitchen downstairs. The wooden pews in the nave can be arranged to create an atmosphere that brings your next event to life!

Congregations

We welcome partnerships with religious communities seeking a permanent home. We recognize that it is getting more difficult for congregations to maintain their own buildings and want to provide a space where worship can continue without the financial headaches.

Community

We want The Chapel to be part of the vital community of Croton Falls, as well as a resources for the community in Westchester County and beyond! Join our efforts to create community around this important historic restoration!

Get Involved

In order to restore The Chapel at Croton Falls to it’s former glory, we need your help! We are looking for donations, as well as volunteers to donate their time and resources to this project.
